Keynote Speaker Announced for "BlackDoctor.org Top Blacks In Healthcare" 2014 Awards
Chicago, IL (PRWEB) March 27, 2014 -- BlackDoctor.org, the leading online health resource for African Americans, will honor 20 black healthcare professionals at its inaugural "BlackDoctor.org Top Blacks in Healthcare" awards banquet on Thursday, April 3, 2014 in Baltimore, MD. The keynote address will be delivered by Dr. Regina Benjamin, former Surgeon General of the United States.
In partnership with the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Disparities Solutions, the event will recognize the work of the extraordinary men and women who have devoted their careers to advancing the health and total wellbeing of our communities across the nation.
“This year, we are gathering to celebrate and amplify the significant contributions that our 2014 honorees have made within the healthcare industry,” said Reginald Ware, President & CEO of BlackDoctor.org. “As we push to inspire the black community toward wellness, we must spotlight the trailblazers within the field—the dedicated leaders who serve as the heartbeat of our movement toward healthier, happier living.”
Ware adds, “Dr. Benjamin is the perfect person to speak on the evening’s theme of celebrating our successes, while still recognizing that there is more work to be done in eliminating health disparities in the African-American community.”
Dr. Regina Benjamin was appointed by President Barack Obama as the 18th United States Surgeon General in July 2009 and served a trailblazing four-year term. During her tenure, Dr. Benjamin served simultaneously as Surgeon General and as the first chair of the National Prevention, Health Promotion, and Public Health Council (National Prevention Council), spearheading the creation of the first National Prevention Strategy, a road map for the nation’s health. Currently, she is the Endowed Chair in Public Health Sciences at Xavier University.
Awards will be presented at the Reginald F. Lewis Museum, located at 830 E. Pratt St. in Baltimore, MD.
