NuGrowth Community Food Drive Results in Donation of Nearly 22,000 Meals for the Hungry in Central Ohio
Columbus, OH (PRWEB) March 26, 2014 -- NuGrowth Community, which is the philanthropic arm of Strategic Insurance Software and its parent company NuGrowth Solutions, donated 14,952 pounds of food and $1,750 to the Mid-Ohio Foodbank in March. The combination of food and funds donated by NuGrowth Community will result in nearly 22,000 meals for the hungry in central Ohio.
“NuGrowth Community has grown with our company over the past few years, and the food drive has become our primary fundraising event” said Greg Tillar, CEO of NuGrowth Solutions. “It is really enjoyable to watch the teams use their skills and talents to help the Mid-Ohio Foodbank in its mission to help feed the needy in Central Ohio.”
Employees at SIS and NuGrowth Solutions divided into six teams. Although the team that donated the most received a half day of vacation, enthusiasm for the food drive was fueled by competitive spirit and a desire to make a positive impact in the community. Teams brought in food and monetary donations, but they also solicited donations from businesses and organizations in the community.
“We are a company built around the skills required for sales, and employees found ways to leverage these skills to gather donations from around the community,” said Beth Wenning, Director of Organizational Development. “We enjoyed seeing the teams using their talents developed in the workplace to help the community.”
This year’s food drive was the biggest yet, with a 270% increase in the amount of food donated and twice monetary donations that were contributed to the 2013 food drive. The competitive spirit among the teams made the food drive memorable and helped motivate the teams. “We all like to compete and have fun,” said Jake Thaxton – a member of the winning food drive team, “but everyone is really excited about the impact the donation will have for the food bank and Ohio families in need.”
The Mid-Ohio Foodbank is a member of the nation's largest non-governmental, domestic hunger relief organization—Feeding America. Its goal is to make food accessible to hungry people in their greatest times of need. It serves central to eastern Ohio.
