Offering Vuzix M100 Smart Glasses with a custom solution using our Smart GOLD lenses makes an easy connection for customers to receive the best prescription solution for their smart glasses available today.

Rochester Optical announced today that a collaboration with Vuzix Corporation, to provide prescription frames and lenses for M100 Smart Glasses wearers. Rochester Optical’s development of the patent pending Smart GOLD lenses will allow for M100 Smart Glasses wearers to mount prescription fashion frames to the smart glasses device. The Smart GOLD lens design for Vuzix customers will be digitally optimized specifically for the location of the Heads-Up-Display (HUD) on the M100.

Although the M100 is very flexible regarding where the HUD can be mounted, with prescription eyewear the location of where the HUD is positioned as it relates to the wearer’s prescription lenses is critical to get right for a clear natural image. Normal prescription lenses are not designed to optimize the visual acuity in those upper or lower gaze directions which can lead to a blurring of the display, and visual fatigue as the eye itself tries to compensate for the movement to a less clear viewing area.

Rochester Optical researchers have created a new digital lens design where special care is taken to remove unwanted aberrations perceived by the wearer in the directions of sight associated with the HUD, giving the wearer a clear vision of the HUD, as well as the normal clear vision their lenses provide of the world around them. The design of the Smart GOLD lenses is intended to enhance overall visual acuity and to reduce eye-strain and fatigue.

In addition, Rochester Optical has signed on with Vuzix as a Value Added Reseller of the M100 Smart Glasses. This new partnership is another development in the growing wearable technology space, and the Smart GOLD lenses will change the way wearers see smart glasses of all types.

“We are excited about the possibilities for our customers that this new relationship creates.
