One Global Mediation LLC, a full-service provider of access to mediation and dispute resolution services, announced today that Stephen W. Olson has affiliated with the panel and will lead its Construction and Engineering sector.
One Global Mediation offers an innovative alternative to retired-judge mediation for business, industry and professional disputes. The firm’s attorney and business professional mediators bring a broad range of practice areas and executive-level industry expertise, offering real-world legal experience, acute business insight and even-handed guidance to dispute resolution.
One Global Mediation’s Construction and Engineering sector handles a broad range of disputes, involving document interpretation, errors and omissions, construction and design defects, changed conditions, project scheduling, impact and delay claims, indemnity, insurance and bonding, homeowner’s association litigation, and other internal employment and operational issues.
Mr. Olson brings more than 30 years of legal and management experience resolving complex multiparty construction and design litigation and disputes. He has served in officer and senior level positions in construction, engineering, and law responsible for managing construction operations, review of contracts, and corporate legal affairs including personnel, corporate matters and litigation. As a contractor and engineer, Mr. Olson has been involved with a wide variety of projects including public works, high rise commercial, educational, institutional, industrial and residential. As an attorney, Mr. Olson has represented architects, engineers, and contractors in construction and design-related matters. In addition to mediations, his legal experience extends to jury and bench trials, and arbitration. He also has extensive expertise with financing-related issues that impact photovoltaic solar installations.
“We are excited to have Steve Olson join our panel of experienced mediators. Having held leadership positions in the construction industry for over 30 years, he knows construction from every perspective – from being the executive managing the company’s highest risk legal matters, to acting as outside counsel representing construction companies and design professionals in complex disputes. Steve has a hard hitting evaluative mediation style – he rolls up his sleeves to delve into the issues, helps the parties understand the strengths and weaknesses of their legal positions, and knows how to urge the parties toward solutions. His extensive real-world experience resolving high stakes legal and business issues in this industry ideally positions him to suggest creative solutions that a mediator not as deeply familiar with construction may overlook,” said Linda Landry Miller, One Global Mediation LLC president and founder.
Mr. Olson adds, “Participants in the engineering and construction process are typically proactive problem solvers well trained in developing practical solutions. When disputes arise, these parties want to be actively involved in crafting a resolution. One Global’s approach to providing highly experienced professionals from related industries to work with these parties significantly improves the opportunity to resolve complex disputes.”
Mr. Olson received his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering in 1979 from the University of Southern California and his Juris Doctor from Loyola Law School evening program in 1995. He is a registered civil engineer and licensed contractor (A and B) in California. He is a member of the California and Nevada state bars. He is a LEED accredited professional and Qualified Storm Water Pollution Protection Plan (SWPPP) Developer (QSD) in California. He is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and served on the committee of ASHRAE to develop seismic restraint standards. He completed mediation training at Loyola Law School to qualify as a mediator in court sponsored mediations. In addition to decades of on-the-job practical experience, Mr. Olson has earned more than 85 hours in formal certified mediation and arbitration training with UC Hastings College of Law, Loyola Law School, and the Los Angeles County Bar.
