Oaks Christian Online High School Juniors Receive Rave Reviews from King’s College Professor
Westlake Village, CA (PRWEB) March 27, 2014 -- Oaks Christian Online High School (OCO) partners with several colleges to offer dual-enrollment courses, including Berklee College of Music and Grand Canyon University, but two OCO students recently completed online courses with The King’s College in New York City, NY, with honors. Hank Jeannel and Summer Senn, OCO full-time, online Juniors, recently completed a dual-enrollment literature course about the fantasy works of C.S. Lewis that was taught by Dr. Bruce L. Edwards. The students received high praise in their college-level coursework as well as an invitation to post an exemplary article on the professor’s website.
Dr. Edwards says, “The Oaks Christian students enrolled in my online C. S. Lewis class for The King's College were well-prepared and conscientious. They really understood how to learn and communicate online, and to participate in a rich community of diverse classmates. Their leadership and dedication reflected the commitment to excellence that has been instilled in them. They were outstanding readers, critical thinkers, and terrific writers. To say the least, they were superb dual-enrollment students whose presence in The King's College course lifted the achievement of everyone. Bravo.”
OCO offers its Junior and Senior students the opportunity to take a dual-enrollment, college-level course in order to obtain both high school and college credit simultaneously. Many families value dual-enrollment courses, because they expose college-preparatory high school students to higher-level coursework while also cutting back on college costs. Hank says, "My experience taking a course through King’s Online was simply amazing. The combination of scholarly discourse, interesting collaboration opportunities, and a truly brilliant instructor made my eight weeks in the course a stimulating educational opportunity unlike any I have encountered before. I found the feedback I received from my instructor so beneficial to my learning experience and so meaningful in the process of my intellectual growth that I would sometimes compulsively check my inbox for my graded paper.” Hank began at Oaks Christian Online High School as a freshman and has made this school his home. He currently serves as the student body president, assists in leading our spiritual life discussions, and is on the Headmaster’s Honor Roll List. Hank has also been asked to publish his article, "The Dawn Treader’s Stop in Hollywood", about the benefit of using literature rather than film to convey Lewis’ vision of Narnia, on Dr. Edward’s website: The CS Lewis Review.
Summer, who also started at Oaks Christian Online High School as a freshman, had a similar experience. She says, “Taking the class was an amazing experience. The professor, Dr. B, not only has a 40+-year background in education and all things C.S. Lewis, but he made the course ‘come alive’ with his various lectures, podcasts, book excerpts, etc. Everything in the course was engaging and because all the readings, all the audio, and all the assignments were in-depth, giving me a greater understanding of what I was learning.” Summer is also a student council officer, member of the Headmaster’s Honor Roll and is an outstanding soccer player who hopes to go on to play at the collegiate level. This course painted a picture of a collegial environment and sparked her enthusiasm for C.S. Lewis.
The King's College offers a range of online options including dual-enrollment for high school students, first year online for recent graduates, and, most recently, two bachelor's degrees in Business Administration and Politics, Philosophy, & Economics that can be completed entirely online. Blocks from Wall Street in Manhattan, King's offers a classical education tempered and enlivened by the truth of Christianity.
