University of Texas Sigma Chi to Present $25,000 to the Huntsman Cancer Institute
Austin, TX (PRWEB) March 27, 2014 -- On March 28th, the Alpha Nu chapter of Sigma Chi, with proceeds from the organization’s successful 34th Annual Fight Night philanthropy event, will present a check for $25,000 to the Huntsman Cancer Institute. Since 2012, the Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI) has been the official philanthropic partner of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. Recently, both organizations celebrated the millionth dollar donated by Sigma Chi to HCI. On the chapter’s upcoming donation, Landon Mosley, chapter Philanthropy Chair, stated “It’s an honor to contribute to our international Fraternity’s official partner, helping pave the way for the next million dollars in donations from this great partnership. The cutting edge research and excellent care provided by the Huntsman Cancer Institute are paving the way for a cure to this disease that has likely touched all of our lives.”
On hand to celebrate the donation will be Lori Kun, Huntsman Cancer Foundation Director of Development, who has worked closely with Sigma Chi chapters around the country. "Sigma Chi chapters in North America have answered the call to fund cancer research and are striving to be the generation to end cancer. We are extremely grateful to the Alpha Nu Chapter for this generous donation that will fund translational research to diagnose cancer earlier and treat it more effectively. Researchers at Huntsman Cancer Institute have discovered more cancer-causing genes than any other place in the world, thanks in part to donors' generous investment in our work.” The check presentation will take place at the Sigma Chi house, coinciding with a dinner welcoming families in town for Sigma Chi’s Parents Weekend.

The Texas Sigma Chi chapter was able to raise funds through their annual Fight Night event. The 2013 event in November raised an unprecedented $40,000 for its beneficiaries, thanks to outstanding support from the UT community, sponsors, and alumni. The event features USA Boxing sanctioned bouts between UT students representing various organizations across campus, all with the goal of raising money for local and national charities.
