Havis Inc., an ISO 9001:2008 certified company, recently invested in the Stratasys Objet Eden350V 3D Printer to streamline product development and improve turnaround time. This Precision 3D Printer is a part of the Stratasys Design Series, which produces the best surface quality and fine details using the widest range of material properties available.

From individuals to large corporations, 3D printing is changing the landscape of manufacturing. Users can quickly test new ideas and resolve issues with existing designs to minimize costly mistakes. Before purchasing the Objet Eden350V, Havis outsourced prototyping, which extended the lead time for developing products. Now that engineering can print these in-house, Havis has more control over turnaround time and is able to rush the prototyping process on demand.

The Stratasys Objet Eden350V starts by reading the data from a 3D computer aided design (CAD) drawing and then uses ultra-thin-layer Objet inkjet-based technology to create a physical model based on a series of virtual cross sections. The printing process involves laying down successive ultrafine 16 micron layers of liquid, powder or sheet material, which are joined together to build a prototype that closely resembles the final product. These high resolution layers ensure smooth surfaces, thin walls and complex shapes.

With Rapid Prototyping, Havis can quickly act on new business opportunities with a lower upfront investment. Havis is already utilizing this technology to provide prototypes to prospective and existing partners, and also to gauge customer interest in potential new products before taking them to the full development phase. Showcased at both business meetings and tradeshows, these 3D-printed models give partners, resellers and end users a physical example of the company’s latest docking and mounting solutions.

Havis continually invests in technology and resources that differentiate it from other manufacturers in the industry. Rapid Prototyping provides Havis with a new set of advantages, including detailed, same-day prototyping, shorter turnaround time with decreased upfront costs, and the ability to measure partner and customer interest in new products.
