Team of Students to Win Opportunity to Impact Global Health Disparities
(PRWEB) March 27, 2014 -- The “Med Plus Advantage Global Health Challenge” contest has been launched!
The winning team of the essay and video contest will have an opportunity to work alongside Timmy Global Health (TGH) in Ecuador, Guatemala or the Dominican Republic to provide high quality health services to underserved populations. In addition, contest winners have the opportunity to serve as volunteer TGH Health Advisors, and collaborate with Timmy Global Health to deploy funds to help alleviate health challenges faced by Timmy communities.
The “Med Plus Advantage Global Health Challenge” contest begins today. Complete details can be found at http://www.medplusadvantageGHC.com.
Teams of 2-5 pre-med, medical students and residents as well as students in allied health fields are invited to enter by answering the contest question, in 500 words or less. Up to ten finalists will then be selected to create a video which will be placed on the contest’s site, and one team will be selected by a panel of judges. The winners will be announced in the spring of 2014.
The “Med Plus Advantage Global Health Challenge” contest was created by AMA Insurance’s Med Plus Advantage program and allows the winning team members to experience firsthand the work of Timmy Global Health.
“To solve today’s most complicated global health problems, the next generation of healthcare leaders must be equipped to use their talents, time, and energy to create innovative solutions. They must learn, and understand the challenges faced by low-income communities,” says Matt MacGregor, Timmy Board of Directors. “They must think, and analyze how those challenges can be met. And they must act, using their passions and their skills to transform the lives of others.”
The nationwide contest is sponsored by AMA Insurance Agency, Inc. The “Med Plus Advantage Global Health Challenge” winning team will “collaborate directly with Timmy Global Health as they serve those too often underserved,” says Brian Farmer of AMA Insurance. “They’ll learn about the problems Timmy patients face. They’ll analyze and think through strategies to solve those challenges. And alongside Timmy, they will act. ”
