The Galleon Pub sets sail with three new Casio QT-6600 EPOS units on board
London, UK (PRWEB UK) 2 April 2014 -- Casio Electronics Co Ltd have announced that ‘The Galleon Pub’ in Old Wolverton, part of the Punch Tavern’s estate, are empowering their business by deploying an EPoS solution to provide backbone accounting and accurate front of house transactions through three Casio QT-6600’s EPoS solutions, linked back to Head Office for easy pub management and accounting.
After refurbishment, the nautically themed Galleon pub fully set sail again in the autumn of 2012 with a totally new look and fully redesigned interiors, menus, events and employing some 10 staff. At that stage, the owner, Jon Ballard, took another critical business decision to deploy an EPoS solution. Punch Taverns recommended that he consider the Casio QT-6600 EPoS unit with Chip and Pin enablement from Casio partner, MicroTill, specifically designed for hospitality environments and to make the life of a busy publican significantly easier through easy transaction and till reconciliation; accounting and management reporting and effective marketing.
With eighty covers within the main dining area; sixty in the separate function room and in the summer months a busy outside garden area; Jon ordered three Casio QT-6600’s all linked to a Casio kitchen printer to facilitate accurate rotation of customer orders:
“This was much more than a decision as to which till to process transactions on. We were looking for a hospitality specific EPoS solution that would be a publican-enabler and remain pivotal in the gradual growth and evolution of the pub and services on offer. Through it, we wanted to be able to accurately plan for the future – from understanding required staffing levels; to seeing if our new items were taking off as we had hoped.”
The tills’ arrival coincided with The Galleon’s sparkling refurbishment. Jon continues, “We hadn’t left any detail unturned when it came to interiors, creating an opulent and welcoming feel to this historic waterside building. The arrival of the three slick new LCD 15 inch touch screen EPoS’ sat grandly in solidly built cabinets on each bar helped to complement and enhance that image.” But behind the polished looks, the QT-6600 remains practical, incredibly robust and spill proof in the busy bar area with a customisable 15 inch pre-populated touch screen with all the available menu and drink options. And, unlike its high-end PC based cousin dismissed due to cost and complexity, the Casio QT-6600 is known to be incredibly stable without any inherent hard drive and operating system problems and can be used straight out of the box. So come opening night, the one thing that The Galleon team knew they could rely on was accurate, effect dependable till usage.
With barside queues reduced and accuracy of transactions increased, for the pubs waiting staff in the dining areas, other benefits quickly materialised. The Casio QT-6600’s feature built-in software designed to make bar table service as easy as possible, including floating guest checks, 2 for 1 meal discounting, and graphical split checks making final totting up easier. From a hardware perspective, it suits the Punch/Publican relationship to the ground, as the 10/100 Base-T Ethernet port provides fast, reliable communications between The Galleon and Head Office, polling automated sales report data through the QT-6600 scheduler function running at a pre-determined time and transmitted back to Punch HQ. Online access to the Social Networking sites such as Facebook for marketing is also frequently used from the QT-6600. Jon comments, “Whilst we have access to reviews on laptops and mobiles, it’s also great to be able to respond positively via the QT-6600. Sometimes, we have been able to recall the detail behind individual orders (through the date and time log) and respond positively and accurately to feedback that has been left.”
After the final pint has been served and the tills cashed up, what of the final reconciliation each day? Jon is reassured, “Each transaction is linked per employee, so there is little room for error. Our Z readings are therefore more accurate than any I have experienced, to the penny. In the same way, given stocking levels are now fully automated and linked to the transactions, we have far less margin for stocking problems or loss of drinks.”
