Doctor Raises Awareness on the Risks of Over-The-Counter Medicines and How They Can Cause Harm Using Mobile Technology
Rock Hill, SC (PRWEB) March 28, 2014 -- In the day Dr. Sandeep Grewal practices primary care medicine in the small town of Rock Hill, South Carolina. But when the work day is done he has another mission – to raise awareness about the risks of Over-The-Counter medicines and help people avoid dangerous health mistakes while choosing an OTC medicine.
“Just because they are Over the Counter medicines and do not require prescriptions does not make them safe.” This is what Dr. Grewal has been emphasizing. “I have seen enough cases of liver failure and kidney failure from OTC medicines in my lifetime that I realize this is an important mission.”
But he had to bring this message to the mainstream. So he designed and launched a free mobile app called ‘OTCplus’. It is an app which lists important side effects and cautions for many frequently used Over The Counter medicines in simple and easy to understand language. “When people are shopping OTC medicines in a drugstore, they have their phones with them. So the best way to help them chose the medicine safely was to put the information on their phones. That is why we went the mobile app route.” says Dr. Grewal.
Today OTCplus mobile app is being used by thousands to get more information on OTC medicines as they shop. The app is available both for iPhone and Android platforms. It can be downloaded from tunes Appstore or Android GooglePlay.
