Shankar’s hands-on session, titled “Analyzing Big Data with Hive”, is scheduled for Monday, March 31, 2014 from 1:15 PM to 5:00 PM. The tutorial is designed to introduce data workers to the advantages of Apache Hive. Attendees will learn the strategies and techniques that help Hive outperform traditional data warehouses built on top of relational databases.
“After our CEO’s successful talk at Big Data Tech Con in 2013, I was very excited to be invited for a half-day tutorial,” said Shrikanth Shankar. “This will be an excellent opportunity for folks to learn my favorite tricks to optimize Apache Hive in a hands-on, face-to-face learning environment.”
Operational topics may include Data Modeling in Hive, Hive Query Language constructs, features and syntax, the Hive Execution Model using MapReduce, and Advanced Optimization. Best Practices of core operations will also be discussed and demonstrated, as well as an opportunity for a Q&A. The tutorial will conclude with recommendations and insight on the future of Hive, including developing tools such as Apache Tez.
