Lectronix Showing i.MX Based Android In-Dash System for Police Cars at the Freescale Technology Forum
Lansing, MI (PRWEB) April 01, 2014 -- Lectronix is pleased to announce our latest in-dash system for Ford Interceptor police vehicles will be showcased at the Freescale Technology Forum in Dallas, Texas, on April 8-11. The Ford Police Interceptor showing in the Technology Lab features a 12.1” touch screen display built into the dash. The display acts both as a powerful Android application processor and as a monitor and control center for other computers and police equipment in the car.
The system serves as an example of how Freescale® i.MX 6 series processors can handle a diverse integration of audio, video, communications, and control processing in an automotive environment.
“Police require the same core features found in passenger automotive, plus a whole lot more. With cockpit space at a premium, every time we can integrate what used to be separate control heads and displays we improve the officer’s safety, comfort, and efficiency. We selected the i.MX 6 processor for its flexibility and power in handling this complex processing environment,” says Tom Bayerl, President of Lectronix.
“For the past three years we’ve been using Android as the application platform for our fleet vehicle systems. This is our most responsive result yet,” Tom continued. “And now the low-power mode of the i.MX 6 processor has made it possible to keep the system in standby for 48 hours while the vehicle is off. Eliminating boot time is an important benefit in this application.”
