Fleetwood Mac was initially a blues band and released its first self-title album in February of 1968 which made it to number four in the UK charts. In the same year, the band added Danny Kirwan into the group as guitarist. The band entered the US scene in 1969, where they eventually moved away from blues into the world of rock and roll. Fleetwood Mac’s first rock album, Then Play On was released under Warner Bros. Records (Reprise) in 1969. Founder Peter Green left the band in 1970 due to deteriorating health and he was replaced by Bob Welch and later on by Buckingham.
In 1975, after the entry of Buckingham and Nicks in the band, Fleetwood Mac released another self-titled album which proved to be their first major success in years. It achieved number one spot on the US charts and sold over one million copies. Their next album, Rumors, released in 1977, was another huge success, but only for the band and not for its members. The album Rumors was a reflection of all that was wrong in the personal relationship of the band members, which were breaking down. Still the album received the Grammy Award for Best Album of the Year. Rumors went on to become one of the best-selling albums of all time, with over 40 million copies sold worldwide and over 19 million in the US alone.
