Memorial Day Weekend may traditionally be the time when the barbecue is cleaned off, fired up and the pool and spa is opened for the summer season. But why wait for another two months for the activities to begin when you can start enjoying your backyard today with these five fun features?
“After a long winter, we are ready to go outside and enjoy our backyards and the fresh air,” said John C. Migliaccio, Vice President, the Northeast Spa & Pool Association (NESPA), Hamilton, New Jersey. “While March and April may not be prime swimming pool months in the Northeast, here are a few ideas to help you and your family enjoy your backyard starting today.”
Add a spa. If you have a backyard spa, turn it on, take the plunge. The hot water will drive winter’s tensions away. If you don’t have one, consider the purchase of a free-standing unit that operates independently of the pool. That way, you can start it early in the season and close it after the snow falls. With today’s technology, spas are made incredibly energy efficient and provide great bang for the buck as far as entertainment goes.
Fire up the fire pit. Add a fire pit to take the chill out of the spring night and open up the backyard to new possibilities. Cook on it, roast marshmallows, or simply enjoy the sights and sounds of the crackling fire. Fire pits come in a variety of shapes, sizes and price ranges. There is literally one for every backyard environment.
Light up the night. Light up your landscape, poolscape, deck, patio, paths, shrubs, water features and more with LED lighting. LED lights add grace, style and beauty to any backyard setting while keeping your energy bills down.
Build an outdoor kitchen. Add an outdoor kitchen to the backyard. Make dining al fresco on a spring, summer or autumn evening a true delight for the whole family or a big party.
Automate everything. Automate the backyard and run it from a smartphone app. Control landscape lighting, fire pits, pool lighting, gushing water features, sound systems, security cameras, heating, cleaning systems, spa heater and so much more. Automation quickly makes the backyard ready to use when you are ready to use it regardless of the season.
