MIWD Gratz Facility Receives PA Governor’s Award for Safety Excellence
Gratz, PA (PRWEB) April 01, 2014 -- On March 19th, the employees of MI Windows and Doors in Gratz, PA were awarded with the Pennsylvania Governor’s Award for Safety Excellence (GASE). The Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry presented the award to the team lead by Chris Koperna, Safety Coordinator, and Mike Troutman, Corporate Safety and Environmental Manager.
The GASE is a highly competitive award and the information gained from the companies who receive it provides valuable best practices that are shared across the state. In 2013, only ten Pennsylvania companies were selected to receive the honor. MIWD was recognized due to their constant commitment to safety through programs including their “Lock-Out, Tag-Out” process, the effort to modify machinery and equipment to prevent injury, and a mandatory stretching program for all team members. Further, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has recognized the Gratz plant as a SHARP (Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program) status facility for the past five consecutive years and they are quickly gaining ground on achieving VPP (Voluntary Protection Programs) status. The leadership at MIWD consistently and continually searches for ways to eliminate injuries and create the safest work environment possible.
“It’s a great honor for the team to achieve this award for their hard work that they do as we continually build on our safety culture,” stated Chris Koperna. Mike Troutman added, “This clearly shows the dedication to safety of all team members at MIWD Gratz. Our team members are our most valued resource; they produce a quality product and we want every one of them to be injury free.”
Representatives of the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry were in attendance to present the award to the team. “Companies who receive this award have implemented safety processes that generate tangible safety improvements,” stated Eugene C. Connell, Deputy Secretary of the Department. “Your commitment to safety serves as an example to all of Pennsylvania’s employers. Maintaining a safe workplace is essential to ensuring a productive workplace. MI Windows and Doors exemplifies success in achieving both of these goals.” Also in attendance were Scott G. Weiant, Department Chief, and Stephen J. Fireoved, Esq., Director.
