Infinite Skills’ “Learning SQL Tutorial” Teaches Basics of Using Relational Databases
(PRWEB) April 01, 2014 -- Software training firm Infinite Skills Inc. this week released its “Learning SQL Tutorial,” an introductory course designed to provide beginning SQL users with a foundation in relational databases and SQL practices.
SQL is a special-purpose programming language designed for managing data within a relational database system. The language consists of both data definition language and data manipulation language, allowing users to organize and modify database data.
Infinite Skills’ Learning SQL Tutorial starts with an overview explaining relational databases and their key terms, and continues through the basic skills of working with data tables and using them to manipulate data.

Course author Guy Vaccaro has more than 15 years experience working with Excel spreadsheets and databases. His training experience is extensive, and includes classroom training, manual writing, and computer-based training. An accomplished trainer in Microsoft Excel, Vaccaro’s specialty is in working with spreadsheet data and database languages.
Vaccaro starts off with an introduction to relational databases and SQL, explaining key terms and commands, and demonstrating some basic SQL syntax.
From there, the course covers basic SQL functionality, starting with using SQL to select and filter data, where students will learn to view, sort, and filter data, and work with some basic commands.
Next, Vaccaro explains functions, grouping, and summarizing data with SQL, explaining how to add a calculating column to a SQL statement, use text manipulation functions, and more.
Other chapters cover joining tables, modifying data, creating and altering database objects.
“SQL is the language we use to manipulate databases, access information within them, and control access to those databases,” Vaccaro explains.
“The goal of this course is to provide a background of the fundamentals of these databases, and prepare you to start writing your own SQL statements.”
