STAR Center SOS Approach to Feeding Program is Used Worldwide to Treat Feeding Issues
Denver, Colorado (PRWEB) March 31, 2014 -- Being able to rapidly evaluate and treat a child with a feeding issue is a critical factor to their health and success. STAR (Sensory Therapies And Research) Center is the premier treatment center for children with sensory challenges including feeding issues. Bethany Kortsha, MA, OTR, pediatric occupational therapist and Assistant Clinical Director of SOS Feeding Solutions at STAR did a presentation this past week to a live audience at STAR Center in Denver on “Having Fun with Food: Make Meal Time Enjoyable for the Whole Family.”
Kortsha specializes in evaluating and treating feeding problems in children with SPD and Autism Spectrum Disorders and is a member of the SOS Feeding Solutions team at STAR Center. Kortsha addressed three key factors that contribute to mealtime stress.
According to Kortsha, by first addressing the factors of postural stability, sensory processing and oral motor abilities, the child can then begin to focus and enjoy foods. Several tips and strategies were presented in this recorded program. The program is available online (spduniversity.org/all-star-lecture-series-fall-2013).
The STAR Center’s SOS Feeding Program assesses and treats children with feeding difficulties and weight/growth problems of all ages, with a special focus on children from 12 months to 5 years old. The program includes providing direct therapy with clients and support and education for the client’s family.
An appreciative parent who participated in the SOS program said, “Incredible! We were so relieved to finally find someone that really understood what was happening with our child. We can never duplicate what we have done at STAR, but we now have many tools to work with when we return home.”
The STAR Center produces comprehensive evaluations and reports that are forwarded to parents and referring physicians including assessment, multi-disciplinary evaluation, extended evaluation, clinical evaluation, and/or feeding evaluation.
To meet increasing demand for feeding issues, The STAR Center recently added additional therapists and is able to take new clients immediately.
