It is rewarding to know we are helping to improve nutrition choices in our most important asset-our children.

The Bill Howe Family of Companies has grown into one of the largest, low cost family-owned and operated San Diego plumbing companies. Part of their success has been to consistently give back to the local community through volunteerism, youth outreach and strategic partnerships. One long-term partnership the San Diego plumber has embraced is with the American Heart Association promoting healthy and active lifestyles in the community, while raising much needed awareness of stroke and heart disease.

The Family-owned San Diego plumbing company has been teaming up with the America Heart Association for the past 5 years, with a commitment through 2015. They provide a generous annual donation in addition to community outreach to help bring awareness of the organization and all it does to help the San Diego community. Additionally, the company and the AHA developed the unique “Howe” Healthy is Your Heart Drawing Contest raising awareness on how to lead healthy active lives aimed at children ages 5-12 and their families. The contest officially launched on February 1 and ends April 4. The grand prize winner will receive a $250 gift card for Toys R' Us and an invitation for the whole family to attend the AHA Beach Ball in June.

For the past two years, the Bill Howe Family of Companies has involved one local Boys & Girls Club in their “Healthy Hearts” contest. The Ron Roberts Branch of the Boys & Girls Club in Linda Vista is also on a mission to teach healthy nutrition and active lifestyles to its students and together with the San Diego plumber, has built a strong collaborative relationship during like-minded events. In 2013, the company assisted in the Boys & Girls Club’s local fundraiser, “Big Jumps, Little Changes,” and this year together with chefs from the AHA, hosted a healthy nutrition demonstration for 80 students to align with the club’s healthy lifestyles week.

On Thursday, March 27, Bill Howe & AHA representatives, together with a host of volunteers and one local chef, set up four fun & healthy food stations as well as a fun nutrition facts and prize wheel. The kids learned how to make each fun recipe, taste their own creations and everyone won a prize.

“The best part of an event like this one is to be a part of the discovery process with the kids,” said Tina Howe, Vice President of the Bill Howe Family of Companies. “They discover that they do like vegetables and fruit, and there are healthy alternatives to chips and soda. It is rewarding to know we are helping to improve nutrition choices in our most important asset-our children.”
