An Innovative Solution to Secure the Southern Border
Phoenix, AZ (PRWEB) March 31, 2014 -- This 8th edition of the Border Security Expo took place March 18-19th in Phoenix. The world’s leading conference and expo dedicated to international border security saw over one hundred companies from 37 states and 14 countries offering the latest innovative solutions for border enforcement, surveillance and identification, communications, data sharing and more. The conference also drew in top decision makers from the federal, state and local governments actively involved with the procurement of and legislation in border control solutions (including members from the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and U.S. Border Control, among others).
The conference ended at a time when a recent study came out conducted by the Center for Immigration Studies, a D.C.-based think tank, indicating that just 25 percent of the 722,000 potentially deportable aliens were deported last year. And although illegal border crossing at the Southern border has seen a decrease over the last year, a recent trend reported by Border Patrol has seen an unusual amount of undocumented minors trying to cross the border unattended through dangerous desert areas (Spokesman Andy Adame told news publication Efe). In addition, a new bill introduced to the House last week, aimed at improving visibility and accountability at the border, and will also provide Border Patrol agents with new training and resources. This legislation and studies indicate the ever-present need to implement new solutions to secure the border, and the long awaited Integrated Fixed Tower contract awarded recently should ensure significant progress in this regard.
As opportunities emerge to test technologies again at the border, HGH Infrared Systems’ Spynel cameras will provide unique panoramic, surveillance capabilities. Both effective and inexpensive, the system can monitor miles of land through any type of weather and track an unlimited amount of targets (walkers, crawlers, UAVs, swimmers, fast vehicles) in all directions through a powerful detection and tracking software. In some geographies where line of sight is more limited (in the 3 to 4 mile range), and in cluttered environments where wild hogs and other animals can create a large number of false alarms, the ability to immediately and efficiently visually assess if detections are threats or not will make a decisive difference for Border Control operations. From the military-grade Spynel S, with a 6 km detection range for a person, to the recently released lower maintenance Spynel U with a 2.5 km detection range, the Spynel family of products can supply innovative and powerful 360 degree surveillance on land, air and water.
