We’re making smartphones smarter by empowering users to control their iPhone at the feature level when vehicle motion is detected.

Baton Rouge, LA (PRWEB) April 01, 2014

Cellcontrol, the world’s leading technology to stop distracted driving, announced the addition of Apple iOS to its award winning distracted driving prevention platform. Cellcontrol now offers the first and only solution that defers text, email and inappropriate use of the iPhone when a vehicle is in motion. The announcement, made in conjunction with the beginning of National Distracted Driving Month, will further strengthen Cellcontrol’s mission to end distracted driving.

“We’re making smartphones smarter by empowering users to control their iPhone at the feature level when vehicle motion is detected,” said Rob Guba, co founder + CEO of Cellcontrol. “We chose to make this announcement at the beginning of National Distracted Driving Awareness Month as a testament to Cellcontrol’s promise of continued innovation to end distracted driving and bring families and employees home safe everyday.”

This revolutionary technology keeps drivers from being distracted by talk, text and email while simultaneously allowing the safe use of iPhone features, like Siri. The breadth of the solution provides a policy module that allows administrative users to limit all, or just some, of the driver’s iPhone features. When vehicle motion is detected, Cellcontrol instantly enforces the specified driver policy enabling or disabling specific iPhone features as managed by the policy administrator.

According to distraction.gov, there are approximately 1.4 million cell phone related car accidents each year and 200,000 of those involve texting and driving. Furthermore, 21 percent of distracted drivers 15-19 years old involved in fatal crashes were distracted by the use of a cell phone. The inherent dangers of distracted driving not only affect teenage drivers, but the commercial vehicle as well. Of the approximate 41,000 Americans killed each year in traffic accidents, nearly 5,000 die as a result of crashes involving large fleet trucks. To highlight the growing dangers of distracted driving, Cellcontrol published an infographic, which can be downloaded here.

In addition to the new application offering, Cellcontrol will recognize National Distracted Driving Awareness Month with a presence at community and industry events across America during this important month, and encourage drivers to share the infographic on social media to multiply awareness.

The new iPhone application will be compatible with two Cellcontrol hardware product lines; legacy vehicle databus connected Trigger, and DriveIDTM - the new windshield mounted, cable-free device that identifies the driver and distinguishes policy enforcement between the driver and accompanying passengers.
