There are millions of different types of bugs, and we love them all! Explore the fascinating world of bugs, learn about the many different types, and understand the very important role they play in keeping the plants and animals where they live healthy. ZooKids classes are held on Saturdays from 9:30am - 12:00pm. Each ZooKids class is offered twice per month to accommodate more participants. Earth Day 2014 Party for the Planet

Explore a wide variety of hand-on Earth Stations, visit with local environmental organizations, get your face painted, observe beautiful animals and enjoy a day of education and fun. Marvel at a show by Trapeze Arts of West Oakland. Play with the gigantic earth ball. See live animal presentations. When people and animals learn to live together sustainably, it is a true party for the planet. This Earth Day event is included with regular Zoo admission. Green Event: Arroyo Viejo Creek Crew Work Day at Oakland Zoo
Saturday, April 19, 9:00am – 12:00pm
Come to the Arroyo Viejo Creek and experience the local habitat, while helping it thrive. Grab gardening gloves and help clean up the creek. The clean-up work will happen in rain or shine, so come prepared! Wear close-toed shoes that can get dirty. Don't forget water and snacks. Gloves and tools will be provided, but you may choose to bring your own. One adult chaperone is required for every 4 youth volunteers, 13 years of age and younger as well as one for every 8 youth volunteers between 14 - 18 years of age. Bring pillows, blankets, and chairs and snuggle up in our auditorium for “Bee Movie.” Meet some of our nocturnal Education animals brought to you by Roosevelt, Oakland Zoo's costumed alligator mascot. Hot chocolate (with marshmallows, of course) and popcorn will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own treats and traditional family movie fare. Let the show begin! $7 per adult and $7 per child to cover the costs of the Animal close-up program and snacks. If your group has 4 or more people, the price is $6 per adult and $6 per child. Celebrating Elephants Reception, Lecture & Silent Auction

Join Oakland Zoo for the 18th Annual Celebrating Elephants evening event to raise awareness and funds for the magnificent African elephant. Dr. Vicki Fishlock, Research Associate, Amboseli Trust for Elephants will be our inspirational guest speaker. Dr. Fishlock will present her experience working with African elephants as part of the Amboseli Elephant Research Project in Kenya. The evening will include refreshments and wonderful auction items. Celebrating Elephants Day at Oakland Zoo

Come to Oakland Zoo for the annual Celebrating Elephants event! Family friendly activities will include exciting elephant stations such as touching gigantic pachyderm bones, holding an eleven-pound tooth, and stepping into an elephant-sized footprint. Grab binoculars and participate in a mock research camp where observers are invited to watch and record behaviors, and they can learn how to tell our four elephants apart. Plus, experience the once-a-year opportunity to tour the elephant barn and see an elephant up close. This event is included with regular Zoo admission. Feast for the Beasts

Primal Pet Foods Presents Feast for the Beasts at Oakland Zoo. Visitors are encouraged to donate fresh produce, such as apples, watermelon, grapes, carrots, lettuce or other delicious fruits and vegetables to help feed the animals. The first 250 guests will receive a golden ticket to spread produce in the elephant exhibit.
