Open Mobile Media: European Digital Economy Reignited by New Roaming Regulations
(PRWEB) April 01, 2014 -- On March 18, the European Parliament’s Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) approved the draft Telecoms Single Market Regulation, which proposes to ban roaming charges for voice, SMS and data before the end of 2015. Olswang and BEREC will inform the audience at The Open Mobile Summit 2014 (19-20 May, London) about the world after the new roaming legislation. The discussion will focus on the impact this will have on base charges and what this ruling will mean for the future of mobile and Internet ecosystem.
The new roaming policy aims to harmonise regulation across all 28 EU member states. According to the EU Commission, it is “the most ambitious plan in 26 years of telecoms market reform". Ina Vaduvescu, director of the Open Mobile summit said “Understanding the implications of standardised tariffs across the EU and how operators plan to adapt to these proposed changes will be vital to developing future services and business models, not only for the carriers, but the entire ecosystem. The harmonization across countries will increase certainty for stakeholders and encourage more investment in mobile networks.”
This is only one industry shaping discussion that will happen at the Open Mobile Summit (19-20 May, London). The full agenda and speaker line-up can be found here: http://www.openmobilemedia.com/london/.
