Xpress Bill Pay®, one of the fastest growing online bill payment solutions in the US, selected Prime Factors' EncryptRIGHT® to strengthen their protection of consumers’ electronic payment data. Known for helping municipal governments and utilities reduce the cost of online bill payments, Xpress Bill Pay offers a convenient solution for consumers to manage payments using their credit and debit cards.

“We hold ourselves to a very high standard regarding the privacy of the data Xpress Bill Pay manages for its customers and their customers,” Xpress Bill Pay CEO, Keith Jenkins, affirmed. “The company has always been committed to taking all appropriate steps to protect consumers’ payment details, and integrating EncryptRIGHT into our offering was the right next step at this time.”

Consumers’ concerns about the privacy of their electronic payment information escalated after the recent data breaches impacting retail chains including Target® , Michaels®, Neiman Marcus®, and others, where individual transactions were compromised. This concern increases when payment information is registered with a service for recurring payments as in Xpress Bill Pay’s offering. The privacy of this information must be protected at the moment of original data entry by consumers, through its capture into Xpress Bill Pay’s electronic storage, and on to its use for recurring monthly payments.

“Xpress Bill Pay had a core requirement for integration of strong encryption into their cloud payment management service, and special web-service integration requirements”, Patrick Riley, Prime Factors’ CEO remarked. “Our team anticipated this need, and architected a flexible web-based services model for electronic payment and other sensitive data protection, which includes support for PHP as well as several other languages.”

Integrating EncryptRIGHT’s strong encryption and comprehensive cryptographic key lifecycle management required only minor changes to Xpress Bill Pay’s existing web applications, saving development costs and reducing the time-to-market for adding the protections. Moreover, the automated monitoring of cryptographic key expiration and automation of secure replacement key distribution significantly reduces the risk of consumers’ payment data compromise.
