Unicon, Inc., a leading IT consulting, services, and support provider specializing in open source for the education technology market, today announced that it has successfully implemented the Student Success Plan (SSP) at Stanly Community College (SCC). SSP is a holistic intervention coaching and counseling model, with case management software, featuring a modern toolset for integrated planning and advising. Unicon integrated SSP with MoodleTM, SCC’s learning management system (LMS). Through LMS integration, faculty and staff can send Early Alerts regarding students that are potentially at-risk. The Early Alerts include reasons and recommendations to engage the appropriate intervention staff. The Early Alert tool provides a feedback loop to the originator to encourage long-term engagement.

“We are pleased with the positive results we are seeing with the Student Success Plan,” said Joel Allen, Vice President for Information Technology Services. “SSP will help our students meet their academic goals by removing obstacles and enabling an early alert system so intervention staff knows when students are at-risk.”

SSP is designed to improve retention, academic performance, persistence, graduation rates, and time to degree. SSP delivers one tool that is paramount in the creation of an academic plan to help students stay on track. Using the My Academic Plan (MAP) tool, advisors can build a course schedule with their students to help them stay on path towards program completion or a degree. SSP can be used with any targeted population of students, such as at-risk students or athletes. SSP is open source software, which allows SCC and other institutions to customize the system as needed.
