Cultural Vistas to Welcome U.K. Emerging Leaders for the Young Muslim Leaders Exchange Program
Washington, DC (PRWEB) April 04, 2014 -- Cultural Vistas is pleased to welcome 11 young people from the United Kingdom to the United States for the Young Muslim Leaders Exchange program, a two-week exchange program focused on how community organizations, educational institutions, private groups, and government agencies are cultivating leadership among young Muslim people.
The short-term exchange, sponsored by the Embassy of the United States in London and administered by Cultural Vistas, will include visits to four U.S. cities over the course of 14 days.
The two weeks of programming begin on Saturday, April 5 in Baltimore, Md., and includes visits to Washington, D.C., and San Francisco before concluding in Chicago on Saturday, April 19.
In each city the young leaders will visit an array of organizations, including Goucher College, the International Rescue Committee, Rock the Vote, George Mason University, UC Berkeley, Zaytuna College, Ta’leef, and the Interfaith Youth Core. Through dialogue and hands-on activities, theory and policy principles will be discussed and experienced.
Participants will engage with peers in interfaith dialogue, learn about being Muslim in America, and complete seminars and workshops to further their leadership skills.
The national program itinerary was designed to accomplish the following objectives:
- Examine Muslim youth engagement through education, economic opportunity, and civic participation;
- Explore the creation of policies and outreach regarding youths and immigration at the federal, state, and local levels;
- Engage in dialogues with peers on university campuses about leadership skills, civic engagement, and diversity on campus; and
- Illustrate the uses of social media to develop networks, as well as engage and connect with young leaders.
Cultural Vistas staff will travel with the group for the duration of the two-week program.
