COBB & Co. Clocks Reveal New Addition to the Barometer Range
Melbourne, Australia (PRWEB) April 11, 2014 -- COBB & Co. Clocks is proud to announce the addition of the large 3 in 1 barometer to the timepiece collection. The latest barometer range is encased in striking piano finish wood and is available in mahogany, golden oak, antique and walnut.
COBB & Co. Clocks combine tradition; art and modern manufacturing to make timepieces that are trusted and relied on for quality, reliability and accuracy. The brand is renowned for the use of high quality materials and hand-crafted solid plantation pine. COBB & Co. timepieces are testimony to Australia’s heritage with styles that hails its connection to the tradition and grandeur of 19th century Australia.
The large 3 in 1 barometer measures 155mm x 540mm and includes a thermometer (to measure temperature in Celsius), a barometer (to indicate pressure changes) and a hygrometer (to measure humidity changes). The barometer is handcrafted from solid plantation pine, which is a medium weight timber chosen for its authentic feel and its ability to display the grain of the wood in the finish product. The timber is then smoothed, coated, varnished and finished with a shiny solid brass bezel.
During the design phase, different materials were evaluated to create the bezel. The use of aluminium resulted in a flatter shine whilst plated brass caused the bezel to wear and flake. When solid brass was used, the bezel produced a distinctive shine. To retain the shine, a protective lacquer coating is applied which prevents oxidation and stops the bezel from tarnishing. Although it is very rare for a clock maker to use solid brass, it is the only material that can retain its distinctive shine and provide longevity. The consistent use of high quality materials therefore enables COBB & Co. Clocks to stand behind their unrivalled lifetime guarantee.
In order to set and calibrate the barometer – the user is required to turn and move the pointer using a screw which is located in the back of the barometer to the current barometric pressure in the local area. Checking the barometer 24 hours later against the observations will ensure it has remained calibrated. It is also recommended to regularly check the barometer against the official readings provided by the local weather bureau.
