“We’re looking at a classic by Buddy Guy today called Moanin’ that was originally written by Bobby Timmins,” says MacLennan, “this is basically a blues in F.” Jon demonstrates this riff in three parts, with the first part of this riff as follows; 3rd finger on the 3rd fret of the 4th string, played twice, followed by the first fret of the 3rd string with his first finger. Next he moves back to the 3rd fret of the 4th string and then to the 3rd fret of the 5th string with his 2nd finger and then back to the first fret of the 4th string with his first finger and then back to the 3rd fret again. Next Jon follows that lick with a Bb/F (B flat over F) minor triad by barring the 3rd fret of the first three strings and fretting the first fret of the 6th string with his thumb and then follows that with an F chord. MacLennan continues this easy blues lesson by demonstrating the last two parts of the riff. Guitar TAB’s for this blues guitar lesson are available at BluesGuitar.com.
