AG Bell Announces New Chief Executive Officer
Washington, D.C. (PRWEB) April 09, 2014 -- The Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (AG Bell) is pleased to announce Emilio Alonso-Mendoza, J.D., CFRE, as its new Chief Executive Officer.

His comprehensive experience, proven leadership track record and deep passion for positive change will help AG Bell move forward in its mission to advance listening and spoken language for individuals who are deaf and hard of hearing,” said AG Bell president Donald M. We will build upon AG Bell’s long and distinguished historic work to inform families, build communities, prepare professionals and raise awareness that people with hearing loss can listen and talk,” said Alonso-Mendoza.
Alonso-Mendoza is an innovative and results-oriented leader. During his extensive career, he focused his passion for helping others into increased brand awareness, donations and publicity for the nonprofits he has nurtured.
Most recently, Alonso-Mendoza served as the President and CEO of Take Stock in Children, a statewide initiative in Florida to engage students and provide them with college scholarships and pair them with a volunteer adult mentor.
Prior to that, he spent six years as the president of the Catholic Community Foundation where he oversaw the operations of the $120 million foundation. He also raised the organization’s profile and led all the development efforts of the three-county Archdiocese of Miami, including 115 parishes and 88 schools.
For four years, Alonso-Mendoza led the Children’s Home Society of Florida, a statewide human service organization, where he served as President of its foundation and Chief Development Officer responsible for all phases of development, public relations, planned giving, major gifts and political advocacy.
From 1991 until 2000, he served as CEO of the National Parkinson Foundation. During his tenure, the foundation opened and funded 52 centers for research throughout the United States, Europe, South America and Asia; 36 chapters; and over 900 patient support groups throughout the United States. Alonso-Mendoza also worked with advocates and state legislators to fund the creation of five Parkinson’s diagnostic and treatment clinics.
Alonso-Mendoza is fluent in Spanish and conversant in French. He currently serves on the board of directors at Children’s Home Society Foundation, Leadership Learning Center, St. Vincent de Paul Seminary and the League Against Cancer, among others. Alonso-Mendoza received a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Miami School of Law and holds a bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the same institution. He also holds a professional credential as a Certified Fundraising Executive from CFRE International.
Alonso-Mendoza joined AG Bell at its national headquarters in Washington, D.C., on April 1.
