'Let’s Chat’ Makes Secure Group Chat Easier for Developers
Toronto, ON (PRWEB) April 08, 2014 -- What began as an in-house side project among Security Compass’s developers to make it easier to communicate on projects has now morphed into a new secure group chat app offering for the developer community, following its runaway success on GitHub.
Called “Let's Chat” (or LCB), this self-hosted chat app makes secure group collaboration easy to deploy within any organization. It allows teams to create multiple rooms based on the projects they’re working on with persistent messaging, code pasting, image embeds, file uploads and personal mentions (hey @you).
LCB was created by an SD Elements developer Houssam Haidar (@hhaidar) – Front-end Developer, with contributions and continuous feedback from his team: Ramanan Sivaranjan (@funaoshi) – Lead Software Developer, Jeff Bain @jeffbain – Developer, Jedediah Smith (@jedediah) – Developer, Hanif Virani (@hanifcirani) – Developer and Michael Bennett (@bennettaur) – Lead DDoS Engineer. Security Compass promotes on-going learning by encouraging developers to to spend one day every two weeks working on “Hackday projects” - team projects devoted to learning new technologies. Using Hackday, developers have built amazing tools that have ended up benefiting the team and the greater community. LCB’s rapid success on GitHub (it already has approximately 680 stars after just 7 days) has inspired the developer team to continue building out the community around LCB, add new features and eventually launch a mobile client.
Current features include:
· BYOS (bring your own server)
· Persistent messages
· Multiple rooms
· New message alerts
· Mentions (hey @you)
· Image embeds
· Code pasting
· File uploads
· SSL/TLS
· MIT Licensed
Upcoming features to include:
· API
· Better transcripts with search
· Better error handling
· Emote autocomplete
· Access control
· Mobile client
