Prodea Systems today announced that Canal SUR, one of the largest cable networks of Latin American content, is among the first U.S. service providers to select the groundbreaking Residential Operating System (ROS®) to provide a seamless connected life experience to its audience. Canal SUR is embracing a new Over-the-Top (OTT) service model through pay TV in the U.S., and is able to bring subscribers the benefits of telemedicine, education, home security, home automation, and energy management.

Prodea is the first company to provide seamless access to the broad range of services comprising the connected home and a true connected life through the Internet of Things. ROS is a managed service delivery platform that enables connectivity and services between people, data and devices in a fashion never before available. Subscribers of ROS services are rewarded with the full benefit of the connected home as well as a seamless connected life.

“We founded Canal SUR 20 years ago to keep Latin Americans up-to-date on their countries of origin, no matter where they live” noted Arturo Delgado, CEO of Canal SUR. “Our focus has always been on shaping a channel that informs, entertains and connects subscribers to the realities of the land that they were born in. We see the connected life as the next frontier for our consumers. Prodea’s Residential Operating System allows us to quickly and cost effectively provide new services and experiences that will help to further their connection with their culture, family, and friends across the globe, through a platform that is future-proofed for the needs of tomorrow.”

SUR, Spanish for United Retransmission System, is an international corporation dedicated to connecting Latin American emigrants with their roots. The company broadcasts fresh, current television that portrays the news and day-to-day lives of Latin American nations. Canal SUR’s vision is to reach every Latin home in the United States and expand its existing presence across South America, a mission that they believe will be best supported by a new OTT business model that embraces a greater number of subscribers on more screens while leveraging targeted advertising to increase opportunities for monetization.

“Canal SUR approached Prodea because they recognized that creating a truly connected experience goes beyond just putting content on the Web or on mobile devices,” noted Anousheh Ansari, CEO and co-founder of Prodea. “Standing out in today’s service provider marketplace means preparing for the demands of the future Internet of Things. ROS will allow SUR to deliver a range of services that go beyond traditional video content into the home, giving them an opportunity to not only monetize new offerings but to gain additional indirect revenue through targeted advertising and eCommerce initiatives.”
