International Cyber Sleuth Kevin Mandia to Speak at Lafayette College
Easton, PA (PRWEB) April 08, 2014 -- Dubbed “the CEO who caught the Chinese spies red-handed” by Fortune Magazine, Kevin Mandia ’92, will speak on the “State of the Hack,” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 10 in the Kirby Hall of Civil Rights, room 104, at Lafayette College in Easton, Pa.
The talk is free and open to the public.
Mandia became a national figure last year after his firm Mandiant published a 60-page report revealing that a military unit in China’s People’s Liberation Army was responsible for numerous cyber attacks on American corporations, organizations, and government agencies.
The revelation propelled Mandia and his company to the forefront of a national security firestorm.
Mandia started his company in 2004 after 13 years in the industry. He had worked as a computer security officer for the U.S. Air Force, followed by high-level stints overseeing computer forensics, incident responses, counterintelligence, and litigation support for Sytex (Lockheed Martin) and Foundstone (MacAfee).
In January 2014, The New York Times reported that FireEye™, a provider of security software, had purchased Mandiant in a deal worth more than $1 billion. Mandia is now the chief operating officer of FireEye™.
A Lafayette computer science graduate, Mandia holds a master’s in forensic science from George Washington University. He is co-author of "Incident Response: Investigating Computer Crime" and articles for The International Journal of Cyber Crime. He has been featured on CNN’s “Talkback Live” as well as news programs on NBC, CBS, and Fox.
The visit is co-sponsored by the Office of the President and the Policy Studies Program. For more information, contact W. Mark Crain, Simon Professor of Political Economy, (610) 330-5921, crainm(at)lafayette(dot)edu.
