NIMBY Celebrates 10 Years of Supporting Small Scale and Holy-Cow-That's-Huge Art
Oakland, California (PRWEB) April 10, 2014 -- Today NIMBY, a creative industrial co-working space where hobbyists and entrepreneurs construct their own projects or collaborate with others to build the ridiculous, exciting and most importantly, the never seen before, is celebrating its 10th anniversary with exciting fundraising events and an IndieGoGo campaign. As one of the first large-scale industrial art spaces in the Bay Area with over 100 different art groups and craftsmen using the shop, it’s time to make some upgrades.
“We have been a little top heavy since the move to East Oakland and subsequent compliance requirements,” Snook said. “We need to get whole again and make some upgrades, like electrical wiring, and equipment which is sorely needed to support even more creative projects."
To raise money for these important improvements, NIMBY has launched an IndieGoGo campaign with some fantastic perks including a fully functioning fire truck with NIMBY's tagline, "It was on fire when I got here." Find the campaign at http://igg.me/at/nimbyspace/x/2890762.
For those local to the San Francisco Bay Area, NIMBY is also partnering with two of its tenants to put on fundraisers that will be packed with entertainment. The proceeds will be equally split between the partner and NIMBY. The first event is this Saturday, April 12 with a Steampunk Masquerade Extravaganza sponsored by Airpusher, a Burning Man mutant vehicle (steampunk airship) and DJ collective. This event is for ages 21+ and will feature 6 stages of music, fire performances, aerialists, live glass blowing, live painting, food, drinks, and more.
The next event will be May 3, 2014, sponsored by Liquid Wrench and the Life Sized Mouse Trap, seen at Maker Faires, now newly improved right on site at NIMBY. This party will include a daytime event for all ages and an evening show.
NIMBY is very passionate about supporting small and large-scale projects and want to continue to offer the best space and tools for them to bring their dreams to life. With hundreds of years of combined experience, the NIMBY team assists all tenants with everything from forklift work, advice on solving a specific challenge, and sourcing unique or used materials. NIMBY was founded with a devotion to creativity on a shoestring budget and has continued to focus on reusing and restoring as many pieces of equipment and other items as possible. Tenants have access to welding equipment, a wood workshop with a variety of saws and tools, and a machine shop including a plasma cutter, drill presses, lathes, and milling machines, all at no extra cost.
