Natural Gourmet Institute to Offer Continuing Professional Education Credits
New York, NY (PRWEB) April 08, 2014 -- Since its inception in 1977, Natural Gourmet Institute (NGI) has been educating aspiring chefs and cooking enthusiasts about the connection between food and health. 37 years later, they are bringing this conversation into the clinical mainstream through partnerships with hospitals, doctors, nutritionists, RDs and DTRs. As part of their initiative to integrate culinary education with clinical practice, Natural Gourmet Institute is now offering Continuing Professional Education credits (CPE) for Registered Dietitians (RDs) and Dietetic Technicians, Registered (DTRs) for select classes. Focusing on holistic health and healthy meal preparation, this innovative program will help RDs and DTRs become more successful in meeting their clients’ and patients’ dietary needs.

Basics 1: How to Begin (demonstration and lecture) Learn the ABC’s of menu planning and how to create nutritious balanced meals. A variety of cooking techniques will be demonstrated.
Approved for CPE Level 2 & 6 CPE credit hours by the Commission on Dietetic Registration, credentialing agency for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Suggested Learning Codes: 8100, 8090, 8130, 4110.
Basics 2: Knife Skills (hands-on) Learning to use a sharp knife properly and safely is essential to good cooking. Learn to prepare meals in half the time by effectively mastering knife techniques for mincing, dicing, slicing, shredding and more.
Approved for CPE Level 2 & 3 CPE credit hours by the Commission on Dietetic Registration, credentialing agency for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Suggested Learning Codes: 8020, 8040.
Basics 3: Mostly Vegetarian Cooking Techniques (hands-on) This 4-session series focuses on the basic and healthful techniques of vegetarian cooking. Learn how to prepare delicious meals using many different varieties of soups, fiber-rich whole grains, high-protein beans, calcium-rich greens, fabulous vegetarian side dishes, salads, dressings, dairy-free desserts.

Basics 4: Principles of Balance (lecture) This 4-part series of lectures focuses on the principles underlying NGI's cooking philosophy, including: criteria for healthful food selection, basic principles of nutrition, the art of creating balanced meals, the principles of opposites, five-phase chinese dietary theory, and the acid/alkaline balance.

Sports Nutrition on a Plate (partial participation and lecture) Natural Gourmet Institute’s RDs will translate the most current nutritional science into power-packed, easy-to-prepare recipes for every meal. Learn hydration, endurance and post-workout recovery strategies as well as which foods are rich in Omega-3's and antioxidants; which contain anti-inflammatory properties; and those that are natural glycogen replacers.
