ControlCase Talks Cardholder Data Safety for PCI DSS Compliance

With the release of PCI Version 3.0, it is more important than ever to provide appropriate scoping of the Cardholder Data Environment (CDE) and avoid having card data in unknown and unsecured locations outside the CDE.

ControlCase, a leading provider of Compliance, Information Security and Risk Management solutions, announced the release of Version 5 of the ControlCase Data Discovery (CDD) software. This latest version simplifies the process of achieving compliance with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) by finding unauthorized or undocumented data in organizations’ systems.

“Organizations are responsible for addressing the risk of having unencrypted, unknown and otherwise prohibited cardholder data in their operational environment,” says Kishor Vaswani, CEO of ControlCase. “This unknown data is the leading cause of card data loss, disclosure and identity theft. Therefore, data discovery tools, such as CDD, are becoming increasingly necessary for getting a handle on where sensitive data resides.”

CDD is one of the first comprehensive scanners to not only search for cardholder data in file systems but also in commercial and open-source databases. It searches for cardholder data, including PAN, track data, PINs and CVVs across the user's network, eliminating the need to run separate scans on each computer. The scans can also be programmed to run on a continuous schedule, providing peace of mind to organizations that need to remain PCI DSS compliant.

“Version 5 features significant improvements to CDD’s existing functionality. It is now possible to scan Microsoft Exchange 2010 and 2013; thereby providing a more comprehensive and accurate service,” says Vaswani. “Version 5 also offers an increased flexibility of being able to pause and resume scans.”

Benefits of using CDD include:

  •     Meeting card data discovery requirements for PCI DSS Version 2.0 and 3.0
  •     Simplifying deployment in an agentless manner
  •     Minimizing false positives
  •     Based on a simple, asset-based licensing model

CDD is already an accepted and proven data security tool, with over 1 million licences currently issued to more than 2,000 customers; including leading merchants, banks and service providers across the globe.
