Online Homeland Security Education Program Now Offered at California State University, Fresno
Fresno, California (PRWEB) April 10, 2014 -- California State University, Fresno's Division of Continuing and Global Education has announced an online training program designed for working professionals interested in careers in the rapidly-growing field of Homeland Security.
The Certificate of Advanced Study in Homeland Security aims to balance the perspective of first responders, middle level supervisors, and executive managers and decision-makers on the many inherent challenges of societal protection from natural and human-caused disasters.
The program is conducted completely online, offering a convenient method for developing expertise in the preparedness, response, recovery, and protection of our society. The training provides the critical skills needed to address the threats and vulnerabilities made common in today’s complicated and insecure geo-political atmosphere. Natural hazards like earthquakes, hurricanes, floods, and other meteorological and environmental contingencies also require a workforce trained in security and advance preparedness.
“Career opportunities in homeland security and emergency management are expanding at all levels of government, in public/private organizations, and among the private sector,” said Keith Clement, Ph.D., a professor of criminology at Fresno State and coordinator of the program. “Fresno State’s certificate program provides education in the social and behavioral sciences, business, engineering, cyber-security, political geography, international relations, public health, history, and many other skill and knowledge areas critical to the development of a skilled workforce.”
The 12-unit, graduate level certificate can be completed in two consecutive semesters. Classes begin in August, 2014, and applications will be accepted until June 15, 2014. Admission is open to individuals with an undergraduate degree in any field from an accredited institution. Completion of the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) is not required.
