Embry-Riddle Prescott to Dedicate Nation's Only College of Security & Intelligence in Honor of Graduate Glen Doherty
PRESCOTT, ARIZ (PRWEB) April 08, 2014 -- In memory of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University graduate Glen Doherty, the Prescott, Ariz., Campus will dedicate home of the nation’s first college of Security & Intelligence in his honor during a special ceremony Thursday, April 10 on campus from noon to 1:30 p.m.
To be named the Glen A. Doherty Center for Security & Intelligence Studies, the college pays homage to the former Prescott Campus student who earned a B.S. in Professional Aeronautics with a minor in Aviation Safety.
Doherty went on to become a highly decorated U.S. Navy SEAL, serving multiple combat deployments and co-authoring the book The 21st Century Sniper. He was also an accomplished pilot. Along with three others, Doherty was killed Sept. 11, 2012, in an armed assault on the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya, where he was a security specialist for a private company contracted by the U.S. State Department.
Guest speaker will be Maury Gralnek, President of the Association of Former Intelligence Officers (AFIO) of Arizona.
Dr. Philip Jones, dean of the newly established College of Security & Intelligence Studies that houses the Doherty Center, said, “We are proudly naming this new facility for Glen to honor his sacrifice and to emphasize the urgent and growing need for highly skilled professionals in risk assessment, counterterrorism, cybersecurity, forensics, and global security and intelligence. Our new college, the first of its kind in the United States, meets this need with a comprehensive range of degree programs.”
Glen Doherty’s brother, Greg Doherty, will be a special guest at the dedication ceremony.

Reception in Doherty Center
The Prescott Campus launched a B.S. in Global Security & Intelligence Studies degree program 15 years ago, followed more recently by a B.S. in Cyber Intelligence & Security, B.S. in Forensic Biology, M.S. in Security & Intelligence Studies, and two minors, Security Studies and Technical Intelligence. Together they constitute the offerings of the new College of Security & Intelligence.
These programs go far beyond classroom instruction, engaging students in several state-of-the-art labs and facilities where they gain hands-on experience with offensive and defensive cybersecurity operations, intelligence and law enforcement applications, and forensic science techniques for on-site security and intelligence investigations. Additionally, in a high-tech operations center they practice open-source collection and analysis, foreign language proficiency, table-top exercises, crisis simulations, and other program scenarios.
Graduates of these degree programs have the knowledge and skills to join more than 350 Embry-Riddle alumni who have achieved successful careers with such top employers as the CIA, FBI, NASA, National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, National Reconnaissance Office, National Security Agency, Naval Air Systems Command, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Defense Department, U.S. State Department, United Nations, World Bank, Boeing, Lockheed-Martin, General Electric, and state and local police departments.
