Dedication Ceremony Set April 14 for New Economic Club of Tampa; Newly Named Group Focusing on Local Issues, Leadership Development
Tampa, FL (PRWEB) April 08, 2014 -- Realizing that its need for national affiliation had diminished, and in order to refocus its resources and leadership development work more locally, a local chapter of a civic club of Tampa surrendered its national charter and has formed a new organization: the Economic Club of Tampa (http://www.econclubtampa.org/).
The Economic Club of Tampa is the region’s largest weekly business club meeting. The club includes an exclusive yet diverse group of business, professional and community thought leaders that share a vital interest in our local, state, country and world economy. Each week, immediately following lunch, nationally recognized industry leaders, politicians and thought leaders share their perspectives on a variety of economic topics and pertinent issues.
Formal adoption of the official charter for the Economic Club of Tampa and dedication ceremonies are set for noon on Monday, April 14, at Jackson’s Bistro Riverfront room. “Like any business decision, the clubs leadership put a lot of research and thought into this decision. It’s our club’s independence day, so to speak,” declared the Economic Club of Tampa’s past president, Hunter Brownlee.
“This year, we are all charter members of this new venture. Our speaker chairs are fulfilling the club’s high standards of influential speakers. Christopher Oakley, VP and Regional Executive of the Jacksonville Branch of the Federal Reserve, is our speaker for our April 14 meeting.”
“Forming the independent, locally-focused Economic Club of Tampa makes good economic sense because we will be keeping more of the club’s financial resources here in the Tampa area,” said Robert Miles, chairman of the rebranding initiative.
The first president of the newly branded club, Graeme Fraser explained, “Under our former affiliation, our members have made great contributions to Tampa Bay and we carry that history forward with us. Our rebranding as the Economic Club of Tampa aligns with our culture, economic focus and dedication to the development of the next generation of leaders.”
Fraser explained that over the past several years, members have felt more and more that it was time to chart a new path and focus a newly-constituted club’s energies solely on needs in the Tampa Bay area. The membership’s vote to surrender the charter and form the Economic Club of Tampa was unanimous.
The Economic Club of Tampa’s proposed new mission statement is to provide a dynamic forum for business, professional, elected and community leaders to identify and discuss economic, political and social issues. The club works to identify and assist upcoming leaders as the torch passes from one generation to the next. For more info: http://www.econclubtampa.org
