Residents of the Capital Region will soon be able to purchase a “keepsake” image of their infant. What makes this photo special is that it will be taken via ultrasound, typically around the mother’s 26th week of pregnancy. Sharing residence with Capital Region Midwifery at 2109 15th Street in Troy, Sneak Peeks LLC is an elective 3D ultrasound service that will offer various packages to prospective mothers and parents who wish to see their baby before he or she is born.

“We decided that there was a need in the Capital area to provide a ‘for fun’ keepsake imaging choice for those families seeking this option,” said Pamela Platis, a longtime Certified Nurse Midwife at Capital Region Midwifery. “Pregnancy is one of the most amazing, life-changing times for a woman, or a family. This service allows them to retain lovely keepsakes to have before the baby comes, and to cherish long after the baby has become part of their lives.”

As there are no medical benefits to this particular procedure, it is strictly a picture taking opportunity. Clients will sign a waiver agreeing that this is NOT diagnostic ultrasound, but "for fun" only.

A variety of packages will be offered. Two packages will allow for an early first peek at the baby and allow for gender determination at 16-20 weeks. This is a bit too early for 3D images. If gender cannot be determined, the parents can return once for free. Depending on their package, parents will get copies of pictures, a CD/DVD of the session, and can add heartbeat bears or just plush heartbeats of their actual baby in utero, in addition to the keepsake photographs.

Sneak Peeks LLC will be the only business of its kind in the Capital area, with one exception in Saratoga Springs. Clients are being accepted as of April 8.
