Istation Scores Predict Student Success on STAAR, Study Confirms
Dallas, TX (PRWEB) April 09, 2014 -- Student results on Istation’s Indicators of Progress (ISIP) assessments can determine a high probability of passing the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) Reading tests, according to a predictability study released in March 2014. The study identified the cut score of the ISIP Overall Reading Ability Score that can be used to predict whether students will pass STAAR with 95 percent confidence.
Conducted with the Garland Independent School District (Garland ISD) in Garland, Texas, the study collected data from more than 20,000 students and showed ISIP Reading measures to be highly predictive of STAAR scores. The study also found very strong correlations between both ISIP Reading and STAAR Reading test scores across multiple grade levels. It found overall reading scores from both ISIP Early Reading (grades pre-K through 3) and ISIP Advanced Reading (grades 4 through 8) to be higher than students’ middle of year scores, indicating that students improved their reading ability by the end of the year.
The study further identified ISIP cut scores needed to predict STAAR Level II scores for both Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the STAAR performance standards phase-in periods.
“The evidence that supports Istation’s ability to provide educators with assessment results that can be used to predict student success on the STAAR is great news for the schools we serve,” said Richard H. Collins, Istation chairman and CEO. “Educators using Istation next year will have updated ISIP cut scores to reflect STAAR Level II Phase 2 results as well.”
