Animal Support selected this Fund to help pay for life-saving care to dogs with cancer. To date, Magic Bullet Fund has provided financial assistance to 300 families who were unable to afford their dog’s cancer treatments.
“Those who can afford cancer treatment for their dogs are very fortunate, but a large number of dog owners cannot and this is where we strive to help,” says Laurie Kaplan, founder and administrator of the Magic Bullet Fund.
Magic Bullet Fund (http://www.themagicbulletfund.org) founder Laurie Kaplan is no stranger to the distress and fear accompanying a cancer diagnosis. Her own Siberian husky, Bullet, was diagnosed with cancer. Kaplan’s dog Bullet died in 2004 at the age of 14, more than four years after his diagnosis. Vets predicted that chemotherapy might extend his life for up to 18 months. Kaplan wrote a book about her experience with Bullet, entitled “Help Your Dog Fight Cancer.”
Kaplan was able to afford Bullet’s treatment, but felt a need to help dog owners who do not have the funds for expensive cancer treatments for their dogs. In 2005, Kaplan founded the non-profit Magic Bullet Fund. Sponsors and benefactors can donate so that dog owners can give their dogs a chance to beat cancer. Says Kaplan, “We thank Animal Support and the Omidi brothers for their generous support. There is nothing more heartbreaking than not being able to provide medical treatment for a beloved pet.”
Animal Support (http://www.animalsupport.org) is dedicated to addressing pet over-population and abuse by promoting charities working on behalf of animal well-being. The organization was founded by brothers Dr. Michael Omidi and Julian Omidi along with long-time friend Maria Abaca to advocate for animal protection, rescue, adoption, and spay and neuter laws. Animal Support does not accept donations but encourages direct contributions of money and talents to the charities and organizations featured on our website.
