SJRMC Asks Community to Join the This Counts Movement
Mishawaka, Ind (PRWEB) April 09, 2014 -- Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center (SJRMC) recognizes the significant health and wellbeing challenges that face the community and nation today. Because the health of our community is our number one priority, SJRMC has launched This Counts — a unique, inspirational journey designed to inspire healthy lifestyle choices through encouragement.
SJRMC is a committed partner on this journey because lifestyle choices impact the health and happiness of every individual in the community. This Counts reinforces that it takes just one day to begin living a healthier lifestyle.
"Simple acts we do on a daily basis improve our health," said Brian Moloney, MD, Saint Joseph Physician Network. "Using the stairs, taking out the garbage or dancing with your kids are perfect examples of things you are already doing that count toward better wellness. These activities build the foundation for even healthier lifestyles tomorrow."
As part of This Counts, SJRMC is encouraging community members to submit videos, pictures or stories at http://www.ThisCounts.org to inspire change in others. Submissions are public, and select entries will be featured in SJRMC's upcoming commercials.
"Our community's wellbeing is at stake and, as a healthcare provider, it's time for us to take responsibility, be proactive and encourage our patients, friends and family to take charge of their health," Dr. Moloney said. "After all, the goal isn't to finish first. The goal is to stay in it as long as you can."
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, every county in Indiana has higher obesity, inactivity, excessive drinking and smoking rates than the rest of the nation.
"Even simple lifestyle changes can make dramatic differences in a person's life," Dr. Maloney said. "We are encouraging people to be patient and kind to themselves. Simply making the choice to start living a healthier lifestyle is the most important step. Join the movement and help us inspire Michiana to be a healthier community. Remember, start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can. Just move."
