Dementia Support “Montessori” Seniors Day Centre Receives Funding for Alzheimer’s Sufferers to Attend an Appropriate Day Centre
(PRWEB) April 11, 2014 -- Dementia Support “Montessori” Seniors Day Centre receives funding for Alzheimer’s sufferers to attend an appropriate day centre. With the rise in dementia it is becoming more difficult for families and caregivers to engage dementia sufferers in appropriate activities that will help support a healthy lifestyle. Dementia Support is a seniors day program that is the first specialized program in Toronto to offer full-day support for individuals living with dementia and is accepting enrollment of new participants. Dementia Support uses the Montessori Methods to help engage people with dementia in more meaningful, real life activities according to their individual needs and interest. Recently, the day program received funding from a private donor to directly subsidize families who may not have the funds to pay for such a program. Participants will receive a full day of specialized programming; hot lunch and healthy snack as well as escorted transportation. This will not only help the person with dementia but it will offer much needed respite to the caregivers who have the awesome task of caring for a person with dementia. “We are grateful and excited to receive the funds. This will make a big difference in the lives of many in our community with dementia,” says Judy Cohen owner and operator of Dementia Support. Dementia Support is currently accepting applications for this new subsidy program.
