VA Maryland Health Care Center Appoints New Chief of Staff
Baltimore, Md. (PRWEB) April 10, 2014 -- Adam M. Robinson, MD, FACS, FASCRS, CPE, a resident of Bethesda, Md., has been named the Chief of Staff for the VA Maryland Health Care System. Prior to joining the VA Maryland Health Care System, Robinson served as the 36th Surgeon General of the United States Navy. The Surgeon General is the Chief Executive Officer for the Navy and Marine Corps healthcare systems and serves as the primary advisor on all health related issues and policies for the Secretary of the Navy, the Chief of Naval Operations and the Commandant of the Marine Corps.

In his capacity as the Chief of Staff for the VA Maryland Health Care System, Robinson is responsible for the provision, coordination and supervision of all clinical services at the Baltimore and Perry Point VA Medical Centers, the Loch Raven VA Community Living & Rehabilitation Center and six community based outpatient clinics located throughout the state. The health care system provides comprehensive service to Maryland’s Veterans, including medical, surgical, rehabilitative, neurological, primary, mental health and long-term care on both and inpatient and outpatient basis. Robinson will serve as an integral member of the leadership team for the VA Maryland Health Care System in coordinating the delivery of quality patient care to more than 53,000 Veterans who are treated throughout the state each year.
As Chief of Staff, Robinson is also responsible for the oversight of all academic affiliations, a variety of teaching programs and one of VA’s largest funded Research & Development Programs in the country.
Robinson has more than 30 years of experience as a senior leader in the United States Military Healthcare System, culminating in his selection as the 36th Surgeon General of the United States Navy. As the Surgeon General, he served as the principle TriCare Health Plan representative for active duty sailors and marines, their families, and Navy and Marine Corps retirees and their families, numbering more than 2.5 million people. He led a team of 63,000 Navy Medicine personnel in over 220 healthcare facilities located worldwide with an annual budget of $3.5 million. This included three tertiary care medical centers located in geographically diverse part of the United States that provided the single largest source of residency trained healthcare providers for the Navy medical department.
Robinson, who entered the naval service in 1977, earned his medical doctorate degree from Indiana University School of Medicine through the Armed Forces Health Professions Scholarship Program. He was commissioned in the Navy following completion of his surgical internship at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, Springfield. Robinson also holds a Masters of Business Administration from the University of South Florida in Tampa, Fl. After retiring from the Navy as a Vice Admiral, Robinson served as medical director and staff physician of Conmed Healthcare Management in Montgomery County, Md.
The author of numerous publications, Robinson holds fellowships in the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgery. He is a member of the Le Societe Internationale de Chirurgie, the Society of Black Academic Surgeons, and the National Business School Scholastic Society, Beta Gamma Sigma. He is also a Certified Physician Executive from the American College of Physician Executives.
During his distinguished military career, Robinson earned numerous service awards, including two Distinguished Service Medals, two Legion of Merit awards, two Defense Meritorious Service Medals, three Meritorious Service Medals, a Navy Commendation Medal, a Joint Achievement Medal, a Navy Achievement Medal, and various service and campaign awards.
