Ricky Benton, owner of Black’s Tire & Auto Service, was named the 2014 Dealer of the Year by the North Carolina Tire Dealers Association (NCTDA). NCTDA President Richard Leicht presented the award to Benton on Friday, March 28th during the NCTDA’s Annual Trade Show and Expo in Raleigh, NC. Benton was introduced by his son Ryan Benton, a past NCTDA President.
“It is an honor to be given such a prestigious award, and I wouldn’t be here today without the great group of people we work with every day. They are my family and friends, not just my colleagues," Benton said as he accepted the award.

Black’s Tire & Auto Service, was formed in 1929 as Black’s Service Station by W. Crowell Black in Whiteville, NC. With W. Crowell Black at the helm, Black’s Service Station was a vital tire and vehicle service center in Whiteville and southeastern North Carolina. In 1976, Ricky Benton and his wife Dianne opened a gas station/garage in the Cerro Gordo, NC community. Ricky continued to operate this business until 1981, when he began working with Black’s Tire Service in Whiteville. Ricky continued working at Black’s Tire, expanding the business into multiple locations (that include 34 retail stores, 3 warehouse/distribution centers, a retread center, BTS Academy – the corporate training center, and corporate headquarters). Later, Benton purchased Black’s Tire from Crowell Black but continued to operate it under the Black’s Tire name out of respect for the Black family. Ricky and Dianne are very involved in the daily operations of the company as are their sons Rick, Ryan, and Jeremy. Today the company operates under the division names Black’s Tire & Auto Service, BTS Commercial, BTS Tire and Wheel Distributors, and Carolina Retread.
