Dr. Andrew Jacono Reviews New “Plastic Surgery in Pairs” Trend
New York, NY (PRWEB) April 15, 2014 -- In the latest news in plastic surgery, patients are booking procedures two by two. Andrew Jacono, M.D., F.A.C.S., director of the New York Center for Facial Plastic and Laser Surgery, reviews the increasingly popular trend – plastic surgery in pairs.
According to Dr. Jacono, his practice has seen a noticeable uptick in recent months in friends, relatives and significant others coming in for consultations and booking procedures together. Moral support, shared bonding experiences or having a loved one to go through the healing process with are among the top reasons given by patients to seek surgery with a partner.
2014 statistics from the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS), as seen in 2013, echo this sentiment. According to the latest survey of the organization’s members , there was a marked increase in familial procedures as a bonding experience. 31 percent of surveyed surgeons indicated an increase in married couples going for surgery together in 2013, with women being the driving force behind the decision. In addition, female family members undergoing procedures together increased by 8 percent in 2013. The most common surgical procedures for women during this time were facelifts, blepharoplasty (eyelid lifts) and rhinoplasty. Along with mother-daughter and sister-sister duos, Dr. Jacono has seen husband-and-wife pairs coming in for procedures together, as well as best friends.
“With my patients who have dealt with insecurity about a particular feature over time, or those who have been considering plastic surgery for a while now but haven’t yet pulled the trigger, having that extra support from a friend or family member is often the push that they need,” says Dr. Jacono. “In addition to offering an extra layer of support, going through plastic surgery together is a unique bonding experience. In nearly all cases, my patients have reported that going through the process together brought them closer.”
With the availability of information online and on social media channels, patients are more knowledgeable than ever. The survey revealed that the consumer base has become more educated about plastic surgery, with 53 percent of patients asking for a procedure by area of concern and 28 percent asking for it by name.
“It’s not for lack of knowledge that a lot of these patients don’t feel comfortable going through the process alone. The patients coming in for plastic surgery in pairs are extremely well-educated when it comes to the procedures they’re seeking,” says Dr. Jacono. “They’ve done their due diligence and know exactly what they want; having a friend or relative gives them that extra little bit of emotional support that they need.”
