Mobile Price Comparison Does Not Always Save Consumers Money - PhonesLTD
Ipswich, Suffolk (PRWEB) April 16, 2014 -- Price comparison may seem like a straightforward way of finding the best price for a given product but as car insurance websites have shown, it is not always just a case of listing the cheapest price.
Like car insurance, mobile phone deals are also compared based on many different variables; however, these are not personal to the consumer but varying allocations of inclusive data, text messages and minutes of calls.
Price comparison websites for mobile phone deals have mostly implemented filters in the form of sliders, which they believe help the consumer to make a more informed choice. However, an industry expert who has been involved in both high street retail and B2B mobile sales has a very different view of this format.
Andrew Ramsey runs the mobile phone deals price comparison website PhonesLTD.co.uk, and he firmly believes in the 'old school' model of comparing mobile deals over the 'techy' approach of filters, "Having learnt my trade on the shop floor I can honestly say that our competitors are not always helping consumers get the right deal for them," explains Andrew. "The inclusion of the filters that they use can actually hide offers that would better suit the customer and end up costing them far more than they need to pay."
Andrew recently worked with his design team to overhaul their successful first website into a slicker, easier to navigate website at PhonesLTD.co.uk. He has been comparing mobile phone deals online since 2006, when he had a team tediously updating the deals manually. These days their back-end software takes care of the calculations, which usually generate well over half a million offers daily from over 20 retail partners.
"Using my knowledge of the 'real world' industry when we would sit down with a client and work through the entire list of available tariffs until we found the right one for them, we decided to implement this same format on our website; no deals are hidden with filters, and all tariffs are listed in price order. It may take a little while longer to scroll through the deals, which are all on one page, but negating sliders means you get exactly the right deal for your usage requirements."
Andrew quotes an example of how much a customer can save by using PhonesLTD over a rival price comparison website, he cites a deal for the iPhone 5S 16GB with 2GB of data and shows that using their website would save the customer £120. "It may only be a £5 a month saving but when you add this up over the 24 month contract period that's an extra £120 in your pocket!”
"We've also noticed that our larger competitors are unwilling to work with smaller partners which restricts the number of deals on offer even further, this may be down to the smaller commission rates but we strongly believe that regardless of our earnings per sale our customers should still have access to the very best deals available."

The older approach to price comparison may not sit well with those looking for flashy websites, however it's proven to substantially save customers money which in this day and age is a deciding factor when buying online.
