Bright Horizons Foundation for Children celebrate 30th Bright Space opening
(PRWEB UK) 15 April 2014 -- Bright Horizons Foundation for Children celebrated their 30th Bright Space opening on Tuesday after transforming the interview and waiting rooms at Putney Police Station in London.
Bright Spaces are the signature programme of the Bright Horizons Foundation for Children. The aim of the programme is to create and support warm, enriching spaces within the community that give children and families in crisis a special place to play and have fun. Through innovative partnerships with Bright Horizons clients, local shelters and community and governmental organisations, the Foundation build stimulating spaces equipped with resourced bookshelves, games, toys, art supplies, computers, and more for children of all ages. Bright Spaces are designed to be engaging, comfortable places for children and families to play – a place to experience the joy of simply being a child or parent.
Following a previous partnership with the Metropolitan Police, in which the Foundation created a mobile resource pack for Police Officers to take to locations when interviewing children, they have again partnered up to create the Foundation’s 30th Bright Space. The new Bright Space is based at Putney Police Station with the Foundation working closely with the Metropolitan Police’s Child Abuse Investigation Team to create family friendly spaces in the station’s three interview rooms, two waiting room and kitchen area. The enhancements of these spaces involved the addition of soft furnishings and equipment for the police interviewers to use during the interview and for children and families who are waiting. Following on from this Bright Space, a second interview suite will be adapted at Edgware Police Station with work set to commence in May.

Detective Superintendent Steve Williams of the Metropolitan Police’s Child Abuse Investigation Command, said: “We are committed to continuously improving the service we provide to victims of child abuse and an important part of this means making our interview rooms as welcoming as possible, ensuring vulnerable victims can speak to us in confidence and in comfort. The Metropolitan Police takes issues of safeguarding children extremely seriously and with the assistance of the Bright Horizons Foundation and its supporters we now have a comfortable space within Putney police station where families in crisis can relax. I would like to thank the Foundation and its supporters for all its hard work in bringing this vision to reality.”
