Press Ganey Awards Joanie Abdu Center ‘Guardian of Excellence’ Recognition
Youngstown, Ohio (PRWEB) April 16, 2014 -- Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center was recently named a Guardian of Excellence Award winner for 2013 by Press Ganey Associates Inc.
The Guardian of Excellence Award recognizes top-performing healthcare providers that consistently achieved the 95th percentile or above for patient satisfaction based on data collected from May 2012 to April 2013. To receive the award, the overall percentile rank cannot drop below 95% for any reporting period. Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center maintained a 99% patient satisfaction rating for each reporting period throughout the year.
“The consistent results of our patient satisfaction survey validates the dedication, compassion and skill of both our technical and office staff,” says Juli Dulay, manager of the Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center. “As we have maintained 99% patient satisfaction since we began tracking this measure in April of 2012, it assures that we are not only meeting, but exceeding our patients’ expectations.”
Press Ganey assesses patient satisfaction in several areas, Dulay explains, including registration, wait times, helpfulness and skill of the staff, staff explanations for procedures and staff response to patients’ concerns.
“This award is significant because it represents the voice of our patrons – the women of our valley – and quantifies their degree of satisfaction with our service. I don’t believe there can be higher praise than this.”
“For 2013, 229 health care facilities nationwide received this award. Of this number, there was one health breast center and one mammography center, both in Florida. And, only one comprehensive breast care center, the Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center,” reports Dr. Rashid Abdu. Dr. Abdu is the driving force behind development of the Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center, which was established in memory of his wife, Joanie, who died of breast cancer in 1994.
“The response of women who have visited the center is most gratifying, not only because of their 99% satisfaction rating, but because of their emotional connections,” Dr. Abdu continues. “From very young high school girls to very old women and their friends and families, they have all supported the center, first by helping raise funds to build it and then by continuing to support its mission by contributing to Joanie’s Promise.”
Joanie’s Promise provides free diagnostic breast services to women who are uninsured or underinsured and meet financial eligibility requirements.
“From the rich to the poor and underserved, I feel that our mission has been accomplished,” Dr. Abdu says. “The Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center provides excellent, compassionate and loving care for all women in the Mahoning Valley and beyond, regardless of their race, nationality, religion or economic status.”
This Press Ganey award is significant, Dr. Abdu notes, “because it acknowledges the Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center’s full accreditation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers, and its designation as a Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology -- not to mention being designated one of America’s Best Breast Centers by WomenCertified, home of the Women’s Choice award.
“I always envisioned the Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center to be a center of excellence, but never thought it would get all of this recognition and awards within two years of opening,” he says.
Fewer than 5% of all Press Ganey clients are awarded Guardian of Excellence recognition, indicating how few organizations are able to consistently maintain such high patient satisfaction ratings. Press Ganey partners with more than 10,000 health care facilities, including more than half of the hospitals in the United States, to measure and improve patient experience.
“We are proud to partner with the Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center,” says Patrick T. Ryan, Press Ganey CEO. “Achieving this level of excellence reflects the organization’s commitment to delivering outstanding service and quality. Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center’s efforts benefit patients in the Mahoning and Shenango valleys and will lead to improved patient experiences.”
