PAPCO Pledges $50,000 Gift for CBF’S Brock Environmental Center
Virginia Beach, VA (PRWEB) April 21, 2014 -- The Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF) announced today that PAPCO, a Virginia Beach-based marketer and distributor of refined fuels, lubricants, and other energy products and services, has pledged a $50,000 gift for CBF’s Brock Environmental Center, now under construction at Pleasure House Point in Virginia Beach.
“We are thrilled and grateful for PAPCO’s generous gift,” said CBF Hampton Roads Director Christy Everett. “Our vision for the Brock Environmental Center is that it be a community resource for environmental education, restoration, and collaboration. The donation from PAPCO clearly reflects the company’s commitment to these important community values.”
“Our business footprint extends across the entire Chesapeake Bay watershed, and many of our employees live, work, and play near the Bay and its wonderful resources,” said PAPCO Chairman and CEO John Malbon. “We therefore are very pleased to support the Chesapeake Bay Foundation’s efforts to Save the Bay and complete the Brock Environmental Center.”
Malbon added, “PAPCO shares the Center’s mission and focus on conservation, education, stewardship, and the Bay’s importance to the economy and the community; and we are excited to help educate and engage our next generation in the significance of protecting this remarkable natural resource.”
The Brock Environmental Center, which is slated for completion this fall, will house CBF’s Hampton Roads staff and that of Lynnhaven River NOW, provide community meeting space, and serve as home for CBF’s award-winning outdoor education programs for students and teachers in Hampton Roads.
Named for community philanthropists Joan and Macon Brock, the center will meet the highest of green building standards, including the Living Building Challenge, which requires net zero water and energy use and that the building have virtually no impact on the environment. Upon completion, the Brock Environmental Center will be the greenest building in Virginia and among the most sustainable in the world.
