Vail, CO (PRWEB) April 16, 2014
On April 22, 2014, people around the world will celebrate Earth Day, but in Vail, Colorado at the Antlers at Vail hotel, environmentally conscious efforts – including keeping it green for meetings and conferences – go on year-round with an integrated hotel-wide approach. The Vail, Colo. condominium hotel is one of only two Vail hotels ranked in the new TripAdvisor® GreenLeaders™ program that identifies environmentally friendly accommodations across the U.S. At the Antlers, those green efforts might range from the beer that meeting participants enjoy at the end of the day – brewed locally, served in glassware rather than plastic, and with the bottle recycled afterwards – to the state-of-the-art on-site laundry that saves energy as it cleans the linens that cover the conference tables.
“The TripAdvisor GreenLeaders badge, as well as our Vail Valley Actively Green 2015 certification, offer third-party acknowledgement of our sustainable efforts that meeting planners can look to,” says Katie Nelson, conference services manager for the Antlers. “Really, our green efforts for conferences and meetings are just part and parcel of how we do business in general. For instance, we recycle and buy recyclables and Colorado products whenever possible – including coffee, tea, wine and beer – and we provide refillable amenities containers in all of our guest suites rather than disposable bottles or packets. Our conference spaces have programmable thermostats and we recently installed smart landscape sprinkler timers with moisture sensors to reduce water waste. And all of our efforts are documented, because as part of our Actively Green certification, we’re tracking everything from water usage to survey responses.”
Additional eco-friendly initiatives at the Antlers include a highway cleanup day that guests can help with for a complimentary overnight stay, bus passes for employees, investment in solar panels and wind power, participation in the Town of Vail’s Sole Power program, and much more. From a meeting planner’s perspective, the Antlers central location and easy access to the no-charge Vail shuttle also saves on energy expended for getting conference-goers to area activities. The TripAdvisor GreenLeaders program was developed in partnership with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s ENERGY STAR® program, the U.S. Green Building Council, and the United Nations Environment Programme. For more information on the program, visit http://www.tripadvisor.com/GreenLeaders.
